This standard Zr/Ti Damascus rod is made from a repeated layer structure of 1 zirconium layer followed by 2-3 titanium alloy layers. Compared to regular Mokume TiDamascus rod, the added zirconium creates dark gray layers in the pattern after heat coloring, giving the overall look a subtle darker tone.
