Zirconium 705 (UNS R60705)
Zirconium 705 is a zirconium–niobium alloy (Zr + 2.5% Nb) that delivers roughly twice the strength of commercially pure Zirconium 702 — while keeping zirconium's outstanding resistance to acids, alkalis and seawater. When your part needs zirconium's corrosion resistance but Zr702 isn't strong enough, 705 is the answer.
Grade: UNS R60705 — zirconium alloyed with 2.0–3.0% niobium
Tensile strength ≥ 550 MPa (80 ksi) — about 2× Zirconium 702
Yield strength ≥ 380 MPa (55 ksi); elongation ≥ 16%
Outstanding corrosion resistance: hydrochloric, sulfuric and nitric acids, alkalis, organic acids, seawater
Standards: ASTM B550 (bar/rod/wire), ASTM B551 (plate/sheet), ASTM B523/B658 (tube/pipe)
Good weldability (GTAW) and machinability; non-magnetic; low thermal neutron absorption

Round bar: 10, 12, 16, 20, 25 mm diameter
Plate / sheet: 3, 5, 6 mm thickness
Tube, heavy plate and larger diameters: indent to order
Cut to length available
FAQ
Q: What's the difference between Zirconium 705 and 702?
A: 705 is alloyed with 2–3% niobium, giving it roughly twice the tensile and yield strength of commercially pure 702, with comparable corrosion resistance. Pick 702 for the lowest cost and our black-oxide jewelry finish; pick 705 when the part must carry load.
Q: Can 705 be blackened like your black Zirconium 702?
A: Thermal oxidation works on zirconium alloys, but the resulting tone on 705 can differ slightly from 702's deep black because of the niobium content. For decorative black-finish work we recommend staying with 702 — contact us if you'd like to test a 705 sample first.
Q: Is it weldable and machinable?
A: Yes. 705 welds well with GTAW under proper inert-gas shielding (stress-relief recommended after welding), and machines similarly to titanium — sharp tooling, moderate speeds.
Q: What quantities can I order?
A: We specialize in small quantities for R&D, prototyping and repair — no mill-quantity minimums. Tell us the form, size and quantity in the form below.
Q: What is the lead time?
A: Small cuts ship fast once stocked; indent sizes are quoted case by case. Send your specs and we'll reply within one business day.
